#DWTS Who's going home?

Who's going home tonight? The first star is leaving Dancing with the Stars tonight, who will it be?

The leading (or losing) candidates are: Kate Gosselin, Buzz Aldrin, and Aidan Turner. But you never know - Tom Bergeron said that had there been someone leaving last week, it would have been an upset. ???

If you are saying, "Aidan who?" "How old is Buzz Aldrin, anyway?" Check out this post with a run-down of all the stars (and their ages).

There's been talk and drama about Kate and her diva-like attitude. Mixed reports, but it seems that the "official" reports are the kindest, making me wonder. I always liked Kate, but I'm becoming a convert to the opinions that she is difficult to get along with. She has been dealing with so many issues in her adult life, I don't know that I would do any better. Sometimes I just want to give her a hug and say,"Relax, it'll be okay." The harder she tries, the worse she looks.

Did you see the show last night?
It was a drama filled episode with the directors focusing on disagreements between the stars and their teachers. Definitely some personality conflicts and power struggles happening on that show! (By the way, if you missed the show and want to see it now, you can watch full episodes at abc.com)

Do you love to talk about the show?
I like to jump on twitter and read #dwts tweets. (For twitter newbies, a # is a hastag that people use to identify specific-subject tweets. Using a site like Tweetgrid, you can sort the tweets and only see those with dwts comments. It's like watching the show with, oh, hundreds of your friends. And, warning, a few strangers - emphasis on the strange. You learn pretty quickly to just skip over those!)
If twitter isn't for you, the forums at abc.com are fun to read too. On the forums, I read something about the Vegas odds. Who knew there were Vegas odds on this?
Then there's always calling your best friend ( or mom!) and watching over the phone with them!

The Purge Is Coming.......

PETER WALSH......Peter Walsh......peter walsh......peterwalsh......perwalsh......

Oh, sorry, I'm trying to channel Peter Walsh. You know, that guy that goes around mucking in other people's, well, muck, and throwing it away. All the while speaking in soothing tones so they won't go all crazy about losing their treasures, or trash, depending on your perspective.

We could be hoarders. There, I've said it. Sean and I, if not controlled, if not embarrassed by company coming over to the house, we could be hoarders. I think I should stand up and confess, like in a 12-step program. brb. "I am a could-be-hoarder" Is there such a thing as a "could-be-hoarder". Maybe you are more of a reformed hoarder or a caterpillar hoarder. Maybe I'm writing a blog post instead of attacking the pile of stuff sitting on my desk.

This is Rosie's toy box. We are raising a hoarder. *scream* Wait, shouldn't that be *SCREAM*? I'm passing on my addiction to my child. Scientific-discovery-alert!!! It is nurture, not nature!!!

This is my desk. Okay, I've done it, I've put it out there. I'm a stacker. I start projects, don't finish, and stack. I get the mail, I glance at it and stack. I find something that will be good-for something-someday and stack.

It's spring. It's a time of renewal. It's a time of hope. It's time to show you and commit to a reasonable "after" picture. *whisper* I could hide all the stuff in the basement, take pictures, and then drag it out again. no, No, NO, bad-hoarder! It's a time of hope. I'm going to clean it all up. I'm going to *shudder* throw things away. I can do it. I can do it! It's a time of hope. Keep telling myself.....stop talking to myself....keep telling myself.... It's a time of hope. It's a time of Peter Walsh.

Okay, readers, help me. You are the accountability-blog-police. Please email me if there is not a post within a week showing a reasonably uncluttered desk and toy box.

Giveaway - $55 Amazon.com Gift Card

Kelly's Lucky You is giving away a $55 Amazon.com Gift Card! I love shopping at Amazon.com and think it's the perfect place for one lucky winner to buy something they need or a special treat or two. You can buy just about anything at Amazon - books, dvds, music, electronics, jewelry, even food! My favorite thing about Amazon is the customer reviews. Whenever I'm buying something new, on Amazon or not, I check out the reviews to find out what other people are saying.
How to win, you say? Participate in the 2010 Ultimate Blog Party! It's easy and fun.
What?
The Ultimate Blog Party has become an annual tradition at 5minutesformom and every year it gets bigger and better. Bloggers put up a post introducing themselves and their blog. Then they put their link up at the Ultimate Blog Party. The fun begins as everyone hops from blog to blog, finding new friends.

Who?
Me and hopefully you! I'm going to participating as a blogger and a prize sponsor. Prize? Did I say "prize"? More about the prizes coming up....

Non-bloggers can win prizes as well!

When?
The party's going to last April 9th to 16th.

Why?
My best reason for me, is to find new blogs and make new friends. You'll not only find great new reading but also new readers will find your blog!

Prizes?
Last year, there were about 300 prizes. Yikes! That's a ton of prizes! I'm only guessing, but this year may be even more. Here's a link to the growing list of prizes for 2010 http://www.5minutesformom.com/ultimate-blog-party-2010-prizes/
(notice #8 under US and Canada - the $55 Amazon Gift Card from Kelly's Lucky You!)

How To Train Your Dragon

A quick review in case you are considering seeing this move, tonight...

Pack up and family and go! I think you’ll love it!

I went to see “How To Train Your Dragon” this afternoon, in Imax 3D. Wow. Dreamworks Animation created this fun, exciting movie about a young boy named Hiccup and the dragon he befriends and names, “Toothless”. The scenes of flight and battles were amazing, but more amazing for me were the messages of the movie. Rather subtle, but unmistakable, they explored the father/son relationship very thoughtfully. Hiccup doesn’t fit in with the Vikings of his world - as one of the characters points out, “he’s not one of us”. Even Hiccup begins to doubt himself. Then, enter a Night Fury Dragon. Not only is Hiccup the first Viking to see this astonishing creature, he is the first to bring one down. But no one saw it! Hiccup takes off looking to find the fallen dragon and off the story goes! There is a surprise at the end that just sealed my impression that this was a good film. No spoilers from me - go see it!

This is clearly one of those movies that is worth seeing in the theater. I would also recommend seeing it in 3D.

There were children as young as three and four in the audience who enjoyed the movie - perhaps hiding their head a few times in the scariest battles, but overall they were fine. If your children are used to seeing loud movie-type stimulation, I think they will love this movie!

I have to run but if you're on the fence, I'm pushin' ya' over ;)

Giveaway CD - I Have A Song by Shannon Wexelberg

Prayer. Talking to God. This CD, I Have A Song, is celebration of prayer and love for the Lord. Wonderful for personal worship time. Pop it into your player and prepare to spend a time of shouting your love for God and quietly telling Him of your belief and faith.

When I’m watching American Idol, often the judges will say that the artist needs to feel the song. It is in every note, every track, Shannon feels this music. Her voice is clear and strong with the belief she feels in her heart.

Individual Tracks
The title track, I Have A Song, will wash over you like waves of the ocean. When the lyrics tell us of times of sadness and “broken-ness”, Shannon uses her voice to convey the feelings of despair. Then it builds, as the courage and strength of her beliefs comes through into a victorious crescendo of faith in the Lord, who has His eye on every sparrow. The peacefulness of the retreating tide is heard in her final knowledge that because of her faith, she is free and safe.

While I was waiting for our adoption paperwork to be processed and for Rosie to come home, I created music play lists - for morning when she would wake up in the crib we had so carefully selected for her; for bedtime; and for play. This Is The Day is a perfect addition to a morning playlist. The words and the music were written by Shannon and it conveys a hope and an excitement for the coming day.

There are nine more tracks, all “Words and Music by Shannon Wexelberg” except for Praise to the Lord, the Almighty (traditional) and ‘Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus (Words by Louisa M. R. Stead, Music by William J. Kirkpatrick) and I think you will enjoy them all.

About The Artist
This is Shannon’s (after you listen to this cd, you will feel like you know her well enough to be on a first-name basis) fourth solo project. Since the age of six, when Shannon started piano lessons, music and worship has been an integral part of her life. To learn more about Shannon, visit her website -http://www.shannonwexelberg.com/ There are many interesting stories!

This album reflects the struggles that she has been going through in her personal life. After dealing with infertility for years, in 2005, Shannon and her husband Mark adopted a beautiful child, Christian. Their son has added a dimension to their lives like no other. In March, 2009, Mark was injured seriously in a motorcycle accident. Their world was turned upside down. After many surgeries and therapy, Mark is recovering but it is a long journey. These challenges have made her stronger in her faith. In the liner notes, she says, “Still, I know that God is faithful to every one of His promises. Maybe not in the way we always expect or the way would prefer, but He is faithful and full of unfathomable love for us. Always. No exceptions……So, will you join me in singing?”

Giveaway - List PlanIt Membership

Are you stressed out because you feel like you have forgotten to pay an important bill?

Do you worry about what you would take out of your house if there was an emergency?

List PlanIt is a great resource for you, no matter what stage of organization, or disorganization, you may be in! From those of us who need to be a bit more organized to the list freak (and you know who you are, because you have a list sitting next to your computer right now!).

List PlanI
t caught my attention, in the first place because they suggested in an advertisement, that every home should have a home management binder where you can find all the important information needed to run your home in one, concise location.

Two of my favorites:
A Month of Blog Topics - this list can be used as a road map to plan your posts around holidays, special events. If you are writing a series, this can help you to see the time frame involved and schedule posts accordingly.

Spring Cleaning - "Need to do some deep cleaning but not sure where to start or what is involved? Simply print these pages, 1 at a time or all at once, and get started. Check off each completed task. Try to do it all at once, or hang each page discreetly in the appropriate room and work on them throughout the year. (Kitchen/Dining, Bedrooms/Closets, Living Areas/Home Office, Bathrooms/Laundry Room, Storage Areas/Garages).

Some of the lists have suggestions for you, some are blank, depending on the topic. But the value of List PlanIt for me is not only the list itself, but as a reminder that there are certain things that I need to write down. Whether I use the List PlanIt form or not.

WIN THIS PRIZE:
List PlanIt has offered a Download Membership to one of my lucky readers! You will get instant access to hundreds of lists. You can type in your own information and then e-file or print. Access to these great organizational tools - for a full year!

Giveaway - Build A Bear $25 Gift Card

Build A Bear Workshops . To prepare for writing this post, I took my daughter, Rosie, to Build-A-Bear today. Even though we had her fourth birthday party there, Rosie's party was a little hectic. I hoped today would be an opportunity to spend more time to explore the store. I was once again blown away by the experience. We had received such wonderful treatment at the party and I found out that the staff gives everyone that special treatment! This time it was just Rosie and me and we went through a similar experience - choosing a furry friend, getting the amount of stuffing just right (with a test hug, of course), choosing a heart.... I don't want to spoil the surprise of the whole process, if you haven't been there yet, but wow. And we did take the time to explore the store and oo and ah over all the accessories.

I also went to the Build-A-Bear website to learn more about the company. I had met Maxine Clark, the founder, at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration and was impressed her emotional attachment to her customers and business. The first Build-A-Bear store opened in 1997, but from Maxine's enthusiasm, you would think it was last week. Can you guess how many furry friends have been made at Build-A-Bear Workshops since 1997? Seventy-five million!!! Wow, seventy-five million!!!

I was pulling for Blossom - the new bunny for Spring - and Rosie chose her! Go, Rosie! No arm-twisting from mommy either, I promise! Rosie calls her, "my baby build-a-bunny". Too cute! I think Rosie's in love - with Blossom and with me. I got lots of "I love you, mommy" hugs today.

If you love the furry friends, but don't have a Build-A-Bear near you, take a look at their website. You will be surprised at the prices - very affordable. Right now, there is $5 standard shipping on every order.

For Disney Princess fans, there are Princess Dresses for the furry friends! Even Princess Tiana.
WIN THIS PRIZE:
Build-a-Bear will send a $25 gift card to one of my readers!!!
It's a perfect opportunity to find a furry friend for an Easter basket, create a special day for your child, or send an animal friend to a little person you love!

Giveaway - Prince Lionheart Silicone Bottles

Prince Lionheart is a family-owned company that began in 1973, making rocking horses. Since then, they have grown their line to include Feeding, Nursery, Safety, Travel, and Play products for parents and children.

My first experience with Prince Lionheart was a Wipes Warmer. Before the first winter with Rosie, I thought wipes warmers were silly! Talk about a spoiled child! Then came along the Midwest snow and cold. I looked at that soft, warm baby and couldn't, brrrrr, use that icy wipe. Road-trip to Babies R Us - it's not spoiling, it's a necessity!

I was sent a package of three colic-reducing Silicone bottles, made of pure medical grade silicone and a one bottle package of the same 8 oz. bottle. Since Rosie is beyond using bottles, one of my readers will be lucky and I will send them to you!

WIN THIS PRIZE:
(4) Colic-reducing Silicone bottles (Product Numbers: 8002 - 1 bottle and 8003 - 3 bottles)
"The Safest Way to Feed Baby. Made of PURE medical grade silicone, Prince Lionheart’s bottles and nipples provide a safe, hypo-allergenic way to feed Baby. Silicone is a natural material that has no open pores to harbor bacteria thereby ensuring Baby is getting nutrition as pure as natureintended, without the leaching of harmful chemicals.

Now we have the nerve to want RESPECT????? You bet we do.

ado, bedlam, bickering, brawl, clamor, flap, furor, fuss, outcry, turmoil

Have you heard the uproar about Jennifer Mendelsohn's article, "Honey, Don't Bother Me, I'm Building My Brand", in the March 12th New York Times? She attended the recent Bloggy Boot Camp conference, making friends and interviewing many of the attendees. Then turned around and wrote a snarky piece, poking fun and belittling mommy bloggers. (I personally am proud to be a mommy blogger and have no problem being labeled as such)

Two opinions:

1. Ms. Mendelsohn http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/14/fashion/14moms.html
2. Liz Gumbinner's rebuttal at Mom 101: http://www.mom-101.com/ (3/13/10 post)

My opinion

I found the NY Times article to be condescending, sensationalized, and well, rubbish. Here are some of the more crass quotes:

"must have skill set for the mini-van crowd"

"real time girly bonding"

Describing one of the organizers, "she steered the proceedings with the good-natured sass of a sorority social chairwoman and the enthusiasm of a, well, summer-camp director. (She went barefoot for much of the day and said “You guys!” a lot.) "

"A handful drank mimosas out of brightly colored plastic sippy cups."

She doesn't address it straight-out in the article, but the accompanying illustration and the headline, "Honey, Don't Bother Me, I'm Building My Brand" allude that mothers are ignoring the needs of their children while they blog.

Bottom line: We (mommy bloggers) are smart, funny, articulate women who have found a way to help our families - learning new ideas, saving money, earning money - and helping others through fundraising and raising awareness. We have fame, fortune, family and community.

Now we have the nerve to want RESPECT???
You bet we do.

Free-bee Chocolate Dipped Fruit

This Sunday, March 14th, you can stop by any Edible Arrangements store for a free sample of their chocolate dipped fruit!

Have you tried one of their delicious arrangements? I've eaten the fruit at events where the arrangements were part of the refreshments. We have also sent arrangements to special friends and family. Especially when you are sending to a group of people, the fresh fruit is a nice gift. Often, it will be appreciated by the whole family in ways that flowers may not.

The Edible Arrangements store in Valparaiso, Indiana has also been very generous in supporting the community and neighbors in need. Special thanks to them!

To find a store near you, click here - Edible Arrangements Website. To read customer reviews and hear about special offers, become a fan at the Edible Arrangements Facebook Page.

I have not been given any products or consideration for writing this post. I'm just a fan of this company!

Mabel’s Labels BlogHer '10 Contest

**** Kelly's Lucky You: Mabel’s Labels BlogHer '10 Contest

A storm’s coming and it’s my last opportunity to write about my passions -
laughter, joy, and being a mom.

My 4 year old, Rosie is, herself, a force of nature. Like a wild wind, breezing in to stir things up. Not destructive wind, or cold wind, but strong, warm summer wind. Not to be ignored, however, or you’ll find yourself chasing some article of clothing down the street - hopefully nothing in the underpants-on-her-head category!

I became her mom when Rosie was eight months old. We both knew instantly it was a love like no other. I can shamelessly brag about Rosie’s beauty and intelligence. Even more than most moms, because biologically I had nothing to do with it! Although I’m proud when a stranger says, “she has your smile”.

Children will do strange things to your life. Even if you didn’t think you were selfish before (having mumble pairs of shoes is NOT selfish, excessive maybe) a child will show you that there are things you cherish more than your own life or Weitzman strappy sandals that you got on e-bay for a steal! Sorry, I wander. With every crayon mark on your wall, every chocolate milk spot on your ceiling, - how DO they do that? - a child wraps sticky little fingers around your heart.

I can’t handle forgetful fast-food clerks but I can play hide ’n seek with Rosie, who hides in the exact same place, in full-view, fifteen times and we still act surprised when I “find” her. Where does that patience come from? Oh, and where does that patience go when she has to go potty for the fourth time during my now-very-cold-dinner? I mean, really, how do you say no to that? Think about it.

To put a label on it? Love.

Mabel's Labels BlogHer2010 Contest

If you don’t know, Mabel’s Labels is an amazing company created and run by moms. Moms that saw a problem - lost stuff - and found a solution. They researched and created fun, durable labels - labels you can put on anything that a kid might lose - which is anything and everything! Even labels you can put on your kid - the most important, yet lost by every mother in the world - thing not to lose!

Why am I telling you about Mabel’s Labels?

Mabel’s Labels is having a contest to choose a new blogger for their brand. The prize - in addition to being a Mabel-Label-Blogger-For-A-Year, yes, there is more! - is a trip to New York for BlogHer 2010. As someone who went to BlogHer 2009, let me tell you that is one awesome prize! Not only can you connect IRL (in real life) to other bloggers that you have commented, emailed, tweeted and e-connected with in every way possible, you are also going with the creative and funny judges of the contest - Kathy Buckworth, Scott Stratton, Erica Ehm. To top that…I know, unbelievable, you will join Caitlin Madden and Julie Cole. Yikes! Gotta say, my first thought is what shoes am I going to pack?

Dear readers, say a prayer, wish me luck, leave comments saying how wonderful my entry post is (I’m beyond shame, aren’t I?), and anything else you can think of, because I know you want to read posts from BlogHer and of course, see a picture of the winning….. shoes. I know you do!

The mission:
Electrical storms are going to wipe out the Internet (perhaps forever). You have one day left to write about your passions: what do you want to say to the blogosphere in 300 words or less?
